About the project
The Iowa State Fair regularly attracts over 1,000,000 visitors per year, all over the course of an 11-day span! During the Fair hundreds of 4H participants and FFA exhibitors stay at the Youth Inn; also known as the “Hilton on the Hilltop”. The facility includes bunk beds, shower facilities, a commercial kitchen, cafeteria and a banquet hall with tiered seating. It has served thousands of Iowans since its completion in 1942.
We managed the demolition of CMU and concrete walls and floors to support the installation of the building’s first elevators (two thus) to increase handicap accessibility. The renovations also included new walkways and entrances on the north and south sides of the building to further enhance handicap accessibility. Lastly, we managed the installation of new drywall, mechanical chases, acoustical ceilings, paint and other finishes to keep The Historic Youth Inn ready for another 75+ years of visitors!
