About the project

Southwestern Community College (SWCC) plays a key role in education and workforce development in the largely rural area of southwestern Iowa.  With over 1,600 students across three campuses they provide training for many popular programs including nursing, music and automotive repair to name a few.  In all, SWCC has 19 separate one-year and two-year degree programs.

Two of those areas of studies include the Agriculture and Science programs.  For the Ag program, we completed an addition to their main academic building which now includes two new classrooms, new office space, a “hardened” storm-shelter room, document storage and perhaps the most anticipated feature of all; a new student lounge.  The Ag program is housed off campus on a 215-acre working farm so the students in this program not only get hands-on experience but they get their hands dirty too!  Because the program is housed off campus the student lounge has become a place for students to establish a sense of community while hanging out, kicking off their boots and enjoying each other’s company. By the time we were done, what had been built in the 1970’s was now a modern academic space.
