About the project

On With Life is a world-renowned rehabilitation facility that focuses on the unique and complex needs of brain injury and stroke survivors. With seven programs across multiple campuses, OWL serves over 1,000 individuals annually from around the globe. The project involved the construction of an outpatient facility and a renovation of the inpatient facility, both aimed at expanding OWL’s capabilities.

The outpatient facility includes administrative and office spaces, as well as various care areas such as exam rooms, counseling rooms, therapy rooms, treatment rooms, vocational re-entry training rooms, gym and research spaces, and a mock residential apartment. The inpatient renovation added new patient restrooms and support spaces and expanded the existing medical vacuum system with a new pump and oxygen manifold system. These enhancements significantly increased On With Life’s capacity to support more patients in the journey of recovery and rebuilding lives.

On With Life (OWL) provides important care to those who have sustained critical neurological injuries and while construction hardly compares to the life-giving work that they provide, one thing that correlates is the importance of adequate facilities to perform their mission. We assisted OWL throughout the entire preconstruction phase as they worked through different design changes. The project will consist of a 22,500 SF new outpatient facility as well as an 8,500 SF remodel to an existing facility. The new facility will include administrative space as well as outpatient care spaces, exam and counseling rooms, gym spaces, a practice apartment, and training/research spaces. The remodel includes renovations to MEP and finishes, as well as modifications to the medical vacuum system. Careful planning and communication between OWL, Hansen, the design team, and subcontractors will be critical in order for OWL to continue providing essential care to those that need it most.
